The Tech-Knowledge Portal – a U.S. Economic Development Administration funded University Center program – provides an entry-point to UConn for industry. The TKP is part of the university’s Office of Economic Development, whose mission is to capitalize on Connecticut’s investment in UConn by promoting technology-based economic development in the state.

The Portal is helping to close the gap between discovery and commercialization by supporting companies and/or entrepreneurs interested in accessing UConn technology available for licensing through our tech transfer office and by helping to integrate that technology into their plans. The Portal also works with existing companies that want to access UConn capabilities, build new business units, or launch new tech-based products.

TKP staff helps make the right connections, foster relationships, and if needed, provide
program support. TKP provides access to the following:

• Faculty experts
• University scientific research
• Specialized equipment
• Incubation space and services
• Technical assistance
• Intellectual property
• Product development resources

TKP staff can help define potential advanced development projects and can link expert faculty, graduate assistants, outside resources, investors and funding agencies together, all with the goal of building new profitable businesses and creating jobs. There may be an immediate problem that needs to be solved; there may be an opportunity to leverage a company’s core development activity with a faculty expert; or there may be an opportunity to partner with UConn and other technology organizations to secure funding and pursue an advanced product that can create an entirely new business unit or revenue stream. In all these cases, TKP staff can help define the potential opportunities and put interested parties in touch with the right researchers and organizations within the university.
